Was out of town when this all took place. But was very sadden by the news. Coach Klatt was always warm and friendly to me in my early years and through out my teaching and coaching career. To me he was a " Coaches Coach". Thanks for the friendship. Coach OD

Dear Olive Mae and Family - So sorry to hear of the passing of Dick. I've missed seeing you both as I haven't been to the all school reunions for Webster for a couple of years. But I have always enjoyed hearing from you at Christmas. I sold my place in Webb Lake and moved to Bloomington permanently with my oldest daughter; well, I think it's permanent. I guess I wrote that to you last Christmas. Stuff gets mixed when you get older, ha. Take care, dear friend, he will be missed. Pat Enger Hanson

My condolence to Olive and family. I am saddened by Mr. Klatt's passing. He was such an important role model as a teacher and coach during my formative years. He was a builder of people and organizations and homes. He seemed to believe in us more than we believed in ourselves and by his example helped each of us to be the best we could be. Our respect for his knowledge of science and his manner of passing his knowledge to his students with discipline and a dash of humor was largely responsible for my own lifelong interest in science and technology. While his passing is a great loss, his actions and values will remain with me. I will always be grateful that he chose to live and teach in our communities and that our paths chanced to cross if only for a little while. He will be missed and continue to be in my thoughts.

What a great man. We think and talk about him often. It is and was a real pleasure for me to be able to do and participate in two of his favorite things (play football for him and to follow a job roll of chemistry). He was personally responsible of my love for both.
We will both remember him for everything he stood for.

Message from Jim Castellano Family
November 2, 2016 9:11 AM

I send my prayers and supportive hugs to Mrs. Klatt, and to each of the kids and their families, Rick, Sue and Ron.
Mr. and Mrs. Klatt have been part of the Castellano’s lives for the past 55 years and very dear friends to my folks and our family.

When I think of Mr. Klatt, I think of a man of integrity. A family man, a man of faith, a steward to his community and genuine friend to so many.
When my father wanted to give relevance or credibility to his story, he would always reference his dear friend by saying, “well Dick Klatt said….” Or “according to Dick Klatt….” This shows the amount of trust, admiration, and respect he had from my father and those around him.

In thinking back to when Mr. Klatt walked the halls of Unity High School, teaching chemistry, coaching football, and performing the duties of Athletic Director, he was always directly or indirectly over-seeing and supporting the programs and people he believed in…he was Unity’s Berry Alvarez of his time.

I am honored and privileged to have had the past 40+ years with Mr. Klatt sharing stories and laughter at the cabin while enjoying a common interest together of sipping a good single malt scotch.
Regardless of how young I was, he would always recognize me and include me in on the conversation and make me feel important and always welcome. He was a kind man and such a positive influence.
I am very grateful and blessed to have had the positive influence and such wonderful memories of Mr. Klatt in my life.

So sorry for your loss 😳 I had the pleasure of knowing Dick while working at Vacation Properties Network years ago. He was a true gentleman and a blessing to be friends with! Dick believed that I should go into education and so I did. When I struggled in math he helped me pass and so I earned a degree in elementary education thanks to Dick! Loved him! May God bless you all during this difficult time. Blessing to you all as we meet him again in our forever home above. Sincerely, Renelle Boyd 🙏 (Maiden name Carlson...Dick also knew my late dad, Buzz) Heaven has another great one!

My condolences to the Olive, Rick, Sue, Ron and their families. Dick was a special person and I have many fond memories of him from my youth through my adulthood. From Dick administering first aide to my finger slammed in a car door to his teachings in Chemistry class along with his teachings and example of everyday learning and living. Bless you all and may time, good memories and the prayers and love of family and friends help to heal your hearts.

Dick Klatt was a brilliant person, role model and personal friend. He was my coach, teacher and early life mentor. I grew up and lived only a few blocks from his home in Centuria where many of the neighborhood kids played football in his back yard, well into the evenings where the only light was the back yard porch. He was the man who nick-named me “Moose.” I had the privilege of hunting deer, fox, geese, ducks, pheasants and partridge with him and his son Rick, just west of town, crex Meadows and at their camp north of the Iron bridge off the Namekagon River. As a friend I can remember asking him (when I was quite young) his opinion of what my first deer rifle should be. As a builder, it seemed there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. He was responsible for tweaking my interest in building; I can distinctly remember him patiently instructing my best friend Jim and I how to measure and cut T-111 siding. Mr. Klatt, a class act, a man of few words, who when he spoke, it was well measured and to the point. A man of magnificent character and encouraging influence. Throughout my life I would often times think about him and was thankful for the positive impact he had on me. My prayers to his family for the tremendous loss.

We both were privileged to have attended classes taught by Dick Klatt at Unity High School. He is one of the few truly great teachers we encountered in our educational experience. He believed in our abilities and pushed us to look ahead. Looking back he put a lot of trust in us and our abilities. As adults we always welcomed being in his presence and reconfirming to him the difference he made in our lives. We bless his soul. Condolences to his family for their great loss.
