Glenn Axel Melin

Glenn Axel Melin, 89, of Centuria, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 10, 2016. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith Baker and Axel Melin; his brothers Leslie and Irvine, sister Amy and his son, Timothy Dean.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maurine Chinander Melin; his brother Warren of Frederic, sons Lynn (Sharon) of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mark (Mirjam) of Clinton, WI; daughter Kathleen of Saint Croix Falls, WI; daughter-in-law Debbie of Osceola, WI; his grandchildren Ryan, Andy, Nick, Kodiak, Blaze, Lark, Meredith, Glenn, Travis, Dylan, Jennifer, Ben, Court and 15 great grand-children.

Glenn was born October 7, 1926, and grew up on the family farm in Trade Lake.  He attended Trade Lake Country School and graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1944.  He enlisted and was stationed in Texas at the end of WWII.  Glenn was united in marriage to Maurine Chinander on August 19, 1950.  After their marriage, he was drafted and sent to Fort Benning, Georgia, where he trained paratroopers.

Glen worked for Polk Burnett Electric Cooperative for forty years as an electrician, lineman, and in management.  Following his retirement, he also worked at Hazelden Treatment Center for eight years.  He served on the Centuria Electric Utility for many years.

He loved hunting, fishing, flying, family, cutting trees and splitting wood, softball, and travel.  He was a longtime member of Fristad Lutheran  Church, Centuria, WI.         

Funeral Services for Glenn will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Fristad Lutheran Church with Pastor Mel Rau officiating.  Family and friends may gather at the church for a visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.  Please join the family for a luncheon and fellowship following the service.  Burial will take place at Fristad Lutheran Church Cemetery following the luncheon.  Memorials may be sent to Fristad Lutheran Church or in his name to another charity.
