James "Jim" Edgell Obituary

James S. Edgell, 82, of Centuria passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN after suffering many health issues the past several years.  Jim was born on March 5, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN the son for Fred J. and Dorothy (Hansen) Edgell, the oldest of five children.

Jim graduated from Centuria High School in 1956 and enlisted in the United States Navy from 1956 – 1958 (active duty) and was discharged in 1962.

Jim married Beverly Chinander in 1959.  They settled in St. Paul, MN where he attended Brown Institute for 9 months and worked for Gateway Transportation.  Jim worked as a radio announcer in New Richmond, WI for several years.

In 1967 Jim moved his family to Centuria and purchased a trucking business, hauling cattle to South St. Paul and freight back to surrounding areas.  Jim retired from trucking after 35 plus years.

Jim was very interested in many things: he built a drive-in in Centuria; he had race horses, sled dogs, mules, getting his pilot’s license, owned a motor coach bus, sponsored softball and bowling teams and did a little farming, raising sheep and his horse Dolly.

Jim was on the Centuria village board, school board and on the county board for the last 10 years.  Jim was a member of the American Legion, Post 346 and 40/8 St. Croix Falls, being an officer in both.  Jim was also president of the Ag Haulers Association for 25 years.

Jim leaves to celebrate his memory: his wife, Bev Edgell, Centuria, WI, son, Steve (Karen) Edgell, Centuria, WI; daughter, Sandy Edgell (Lenny Olson), Balsam Lake, WI; grandchildren: Joe Dacunha (Ashley Bonkoski), Hudson, WI; Christina (Dustin) Braddy, Colorado Springs, CO; Zachary Edgell, Balsam Lake, WI; great grandchildren: Averi Braddy, Easton Braddy, James Braddy, Wesley Dacunha, Liam Dacunha, brothers, Douglas (Michelle) Edgell, Powell, WY; Andy Edgell (Renee), Pine City, MN; sister, Sue (Gary) Clausen, Krum, TX, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Dorothy and his brother Tom Edgell.

A private family graveside service will be held.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Joy Lutheran Church in Centuria followed by military honors.
