Thomas Jay Mariette, 65, passed away on February 10th, 2026, at his apartment in South Minneapolis, MN, of natural causes.
Born August 25, 1960, in Robbinsdale, MN, to Douglas and Shirley (Johnson) Mariette. He attended first grade at Neill Elementary, a short walk down the block from his childhood home at 2952 Georgia Ave No, in Crystal, MN. In 1969, his parents decided to move the family to Northwest Wisconsin, purchasing a farm on Little Wood Lake, south of Falun, which would provide a country life upbringing. That year, Tom began 2nd grade at Nelson Elementary in Alpha. He graduated from Grantsburg High School in 1979.
Tom had an easy manner of making friends, of which he made many in his life, no matter where his journey took him. Growing up on a family farm, he worked hard with his brother at the many chores involved, but he always had a way of making work fun. He enjoyed outdoor life, despite the cold winters; he was usually dressed in multiple layers of clothing, especially the many hand-knit socks his mother made for the family. Fishing either from shore or on the ice, snowmobiling, Tom enjoyed the seasons of Wisconsin. Still as a teen, he worked at various jobs in the community, later moving to the Twin Cities and employed as a UPS driver. Animals always captured Tom’s heart, and his last years were shared with a unique companion, a cat named Norman.
Tom was preceded in death by his newborn sister, Lynn, father Douglas Mariette, sister Jane Corty, and mother Shirley. He is survived by his sons, Thomas, Justin (Mary Ann), granddaughter Amara, sister Carol (Ralph) Bents, brother James (Darla) Mariette, brother-in-law Roger (Kim) Corty, nephews and nieces, cousins, and the many friends he made in this life.
The funeral service for Tom will be held on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at 11 am at New Hope Lutheran Church, 685 WI-70, Grantsburg, WI Visitation will be held at the church on Monday, February 23rd, from 5-7 pm and again on Tuesday, one hour before the funeral. Please join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church gathering hall following the funeral. He will be laid to rest at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eureka Township following the luncheon.
