Rachel Engebretson, 83 of Balsam Lake, WI passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Sophie’s Manor in Centuria. Rachel Warrick was born on June 4, 1936 in Hartselle, Alabama the daughter of Edward and Mary Grace (McDaniel) Warrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Andrew, children: Mary Rachel Sherrill, Cheryl Carmel Adams, Rebecca Rachel Richardson and Mark Edward Richardson and her brother Billy Warrick.
She leaves to celebrate her memory: children: William D. (Mary Ann) Sherrill, Lindenhurst, IL; Daniel (April) Richardson, St. Paul, MN and Margaret Engebretson, Balsam Lake, WI, step-children, Peder (Eileen) Engebretson, St. Anthony Village, MN and Sarah (Mark) VanderMeiden, Cloquet, MN; grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sister, Deborah Houck, and other family and friends.
Rachel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Balsam Lake and enjoyed singing in the choir and being involved in other activities with the church. Rachel was a very friendly, outgoing, and generous person.
Many interests, skills, and hobbies filled Rachel's active life. After completing an interior decorating course, she opened a small business called the Wall Nut. Later, she completed a two-year lay ministry training course. Other hobbies included, quilting, knitting, needlepoint, making items with stained glass, and her yearly enjoyment of growing beautiful flowers.
Rachel was a lifelong avid reader and belonged to the Balsam Lake Library Book Club. For a time, she was also volunteered for the local domestic violence shelter.
Though Rachel grew up in Alabama, Rachel struck out into the world and lived in several other states including: Texas, California, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and of course, her longest home in Wisconsin. She also loved traveling -- visiting Norway, Germany, Italy, and Austria.
Like everyone in Rachel's family, she loved dogs. Many were taken into her heart and home over her lifetime.
The funeral service for Rachel will be held at Faith Lutheran Church in Balsam Lake on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Friends may join the family for visitation at the church beginning at 10:00 A.M. Please join the family for continued fellowship and lunch following the service in the church basement.
Rachel will be laid to rest at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Lowry, Minnesota alongside the "love of her life," Andrew Engebretson, at a later date.
The Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Centuria has been entrusted with arrangements.
