John "Jack" W. Schmid

John W. “Jack”  Schmid, 83  of Centuria, Wisconsin passed away on Thursday, July 09, 2015 at the Crystal Care Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Jack was born on February 5, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Leonard and Lucille Schmid.  Jack lived and worked in the Minneapolis area as a young adult and it was there in South Minneapolis that he met married Jacqueline (Jackie) Boie on November 21, 1953.  They lived in a trailer in Coon Rapids on Jack's father's property but then soon moved that trailer to a park in St. Anthony Village.  In July of 1954 Jack was drafted into the Army where he served during the Korean War and just four months later, their first of five sons was born.

When he returned home, they sold their trailer and bought a house in Mounds View where they lived for 11 years.  There they had three more sons and lost a daughter who was still born.  They decided to move out of the city and start farming.  They bought their first farm in Elk River and then made their way to a big dairy farm in Kimball, where they had their last son.  In 1983 they bought a farm in Eureka Center and then finally ended up settling down in Centuria where they've lived for the past 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jacqueline (Jackie) Schmid, infant daughter, son, Terry Schmid and two great granddaughters, Karly Jo and Abigail (in infancy), brothers, Leonard, Bob and Charlie Schmid.

Jack  leaves behind to celebrate his memory, sons, John (Pat) Schmid of Princeton, MN, Jim (Karen) Schmid of Blaine, MN,  Scott Schmid of Centuria, WI and Mike (Lizz) Schmid of Centuria, WI, daughter-in-law, Cindy (John) Kreft, Luck, WI,  many grandchildren and  great grandchildren.  Also brothers, Dale (Carol) Schmid of McGregor, MN, Steve (LoAnne) Schmid of McGregor and Gary (Sharon) Schmid of Eden Valley, MN, sister, Carole (Dick) Baus, Redfield, SD and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 13, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. at the Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Centuria.  Pastor Maggie Isaacson will officiate the service.

The family will greet visitors on Sunday, July 12, 2015 from 4-7 P.M. at the Kolstad Family Funeral Home and again on Monday one hour prior to the service  at the funeral home.

Jack will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis next to his wife and infant daughter on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 11:00 A.M.  Casketbearers will be John, Jim, Scott, Mike, Jake and Dean Schmid.
