Welcome to the memorial page for

Vernon Glen Nelson

May 28, 1931 ~ May 28, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Vernon G. Nelson passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family, spanning multiple generations on Sunday May 28th 2017.  Vernon was born on May 28, 1931.

He grew up in Balsam Lake, one of three sons of Gudrun and Fred Nelson. Vernon is a veteran of the United States Air Force where when stationed in Liverpool met his wife of 65 years, Anne.  Vernon and Anne married on March 24, 1952 in Liverpool. After many years of traveling the world together, Anne and Vern moved back to Milltown WI, where they started a family that would lead to the upbringing of three beautiful girls. They moved around Minnesota and Wisconsin as their Family grew. After 40+ years as a specialized auto-body technician, Anne and Vern retired, returning to Milltown to built their dream log home by their own hands. Here they welcomed their first grandchildren and  started many family traditions. From fishing excursions in the spring, cutting wood and mastering fires in the fall to long hikes in the woods year-round, the memories are countless.

Vernon was ever-patient, extremely hardworking and kind through and through. His midwestern values were comforting to everyone who knew him. He was an amazing listener, his laugh was contagious, and his words of wisdom left a mark on us all.

Vernon leaves to celebrate his memory: his wife, Anne of Balsam Lake, daughters, Margot Nelson, Balsam Lake, WI; Suzanne (Michael) Schumann, St. Paul, MN and Linda Wesely, Moose Lake, MN, grandchildren, Bridget McElroy, Crystal, MN; Peter (Jennifer) Schumann, Chicago, IL; Madeline Wesely and Christopher Wesley of Moose Lake, MN; brothers, Donald (Iris) Nelson, Balsam Lake, WI and Allan (Carol) Nelson Eustis, FL and other loving family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Gudrun Nelson, a daughter in infancy, Mary Nelson and a grandson, Thomas Nelson McElroy.
