David Lester Gustafson

David L. Gustafson, 79, of Frederic, Wisconsin passed away in the early morning on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at the St. Croix Regional Medical Center.  David was born on January 9, 1940 in St. Paul, Minnesota the son of John and Adeline Gustafson.

David attended Frederic High School and graduated in 1958.  After high school, David worked for Western Union installing and repairing their systems.  He married Judith Jenson on August 17, 1963.  They lived in Princeton, MN and then moved to Coon Rapids, MN.  David left Western Union and the family moved to Milaca, MN where he began working for Judith’s uncle installing laundromat equipment throughout the US.  David and Judith purchased the Wash House in 1975 and the family moved to Frederic, WI.  Later they went on to own the Milltown Laundromat and the Frederic Liquor Store.  In addition to being a business owner, David worked at Durex in Luck, WI for 15 years.

David enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic events and years of Gustafson Brothers Racing.  He enjoyed checking in on Doug and Mason as they worked in the fields and on the pigs on the farm.  Every morning David met with friends for coffee and conversation and would then go over to visit with his brother Daniel until his passing recently.  He also enjoyed his trips to the casino and the friendships he developed from the bus trips he would take.

David leaves to celebrate his memory: son, Doug (Doreen) Gustafson, Frederic, WI; daughter, Kim Gustafson, St. Paul, MN; and son, Steven Gustafson, Frederic, WI; grandchildren, Allison, Carly, Mason and Matthew; sister, Diane (David) Schroeder, sister-in-law, Lois Gustafson, many nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Adeline; his wife, Judith; brothers, Jack, Mark,Duane, Daniel and his sister Carole.

A Memorial Service for David will be held at Zion Lutheran Church of Bone Lake on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.  Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10:00 A.M.  Pastor Mike Fisk will officiate the service.

Following the service, please join the family for lunch in fellowship in the church social hall.

David will be laid to rest alongside his wife Judith at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in the spring.
